About the original
The Air Command goes back to a 1950s Blancpain chronograph reputedly made for the United States Air Force. Blancpain says it had already won over the American Navy with its Fifty Fathoms, and that the chronograph was offered to American military pilots through the distributor Allen V. Tornek. Blancpain is thought to have made only about a dozen as prototypes.
Blancpain revived it as a 500-piece limited edition in 2019 and added a regular-production titanium version with a blue dial in 2021. It has a flyback chronograph, a countdown bezel and a tachymeter scale. The two registers sit at 3 and 9, and the chronograph seconds hand is central.
