Type a model number, a brand or the name of an original.

How we score

The Resemblance Score measures how closely a homage follows the design of its original. It is not a quality rating: a watch can be a close homage and still have weak finishing, which is what the reviews section covers.

The Resemblance Score

Each homage is scored out of 100 against one reference of its original, named on the page. The score has four parts. Proportions and movement type are calculated from published specs. Design details and functions are judged from the brand's official images and listings, and a second researcher checks every judgement before it is published.

Logos, names and dial text never count. A watch carrying the original's branding is a replica, and we don't list it.

Proportions (30 points)

Points are lost for each millimetre of difference from the original:

  • Case diameter: 12 points, minus 4 per millimetre
  • Lug-to-lug: 8 points, minus 3 per millimetre
  • Thickness: 6 points, minus 2 per millimetre
  • Lug width: 4 points, minus 2 per millimetre

If thickness or lug width is not known for either watch, it is left out and the remaining proportion points are scaled up to 30. If case diameter or lug-to-lug is missing, we show no score.

Makers often don't publish lug-to-lug or thickness. Then we use measurements from reviews and dealers: the middle value of at least two independent measurements that agree within 1 mm, as long as they are the majority of the measurements we found. Values worked out this way, and scores that use them, are marked ≈, and the page says how many measurements they come from.

Homage brands sometimes publish figures that reviewers can't reproduce. When measurements agree with each other but differ from the brand's figure by more than 1 mm, we show the measured value, marked ≈, and the brand's figure in a note. This applies to case diameter too.

Design details (40 points)

For every original we publish a checklist of the details that make the design recognisable, such as the hands, the bezel scale or the bracelet, each with a weight. The weights add up to 40. A detail that matches earns its full weight, a partial match earns half, and a missing one earns nothing. The checklist and each result are shown on every model page.

Functions and materials (20 points)

  • Complications: 8 points
  • Bezel action: 4 points
  • Case and bezel materials: 4 points
  • Crystal shape and date window: 4 points

For example, a GMT with an independently jumping local hour hand matches a true GMT original; a caller GMT is a partial match.

Movement type (10 points)

The same movement type as the original earns 10 points. A related type earns 5, such as a hand-wound movement against an automatic, or a mecha-quartz chronograph against a mechanical one. A different type earns nothing.

Where the facts come from

Every spec comes from a page we opened while researching the watch: the brand's own product page or its official store listing. Values that are not published are shown as “Not published”. Each page lists its sources and the date we checked them.

We write a summary of reviews only after reading or watching at least two independent reviews, and we say how many of them used a watch supplied by the brand. A quality issue is listed only when at least two independent sources report it.

Where to buy

We link only to stores run by the brand itself: its website, its official AliExpress store or its Amazon brand store. Store order never depends on commission. Prices are the regular price at the official store on the date shown. See the affiliate disclosure.
