About the original
The Seiko 62MAS went on sale in July 1965 as the Seikomatic Calendar Diver's Watch, rated to 150 m, and is regarded as Seiko's first true diver. It was developed in a hurry for Japan's Antarctic research expeditions. The name comes from the 62 movement family and 'MAS' for automatic selfdater.
Seiko has reissued the design several times since 2017. The current version is the 2024 Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver's Watch (SPB451 blue, SPB453 black, SPB455 anniversary edition): 40 mm wide, 300 m water resistance, a 6R55 movement, and the date moved to between four and five o'clock.
