About the original
Seiko's first Japanese-made dive watch came in 1965 with 150 m water resistance. In 1968 it followed with a 300 m diver, reference 6159-7001, built around a high-beat automatic movement. That watch is the design the Marinemaster 1968 Heritage models revisit.
The SLA079J1 keeps the 1968 layout of broad faceted hands, lumed indices, a steel timing bezel and a crown at 4 o'clock, but the case grows to 42.6 mm. It uses the 8L35 movement. Seiko also lists the HBF001J1, a newer version of the same design with an 8L45 movement and a longer power reserve.
