About the original
The SKX007 is Seiko's 200 m automatic diver launched in 1996, alongside the blue-dial SKX009. It followed the 7002, which had a black dial, white painted markers and arrow hands, and it has a 42.5 mm case, a 4 o'clock crown and a 7S26 movement. The SKX line is now discontinued.
Seiko still sells watches under the name SKX series within 5 Sports. The SRPD55 is one of them. It keeps the 42.5 mm case size and the crown at 4 o'clock, which Seiko says is placed to stay clear of the wrist, but it is rated to 100 m, has a see-through case back and uses the 4R36 movement. Seiko describes the original SKX dial as having pill-shaped and round dot indexes with short lines toward the centre that form a crosshair.
The design signatures on this record describe the SKX007, not the SRPD55: the SRPD55 is used only as the current maker reference that carries the SKX name. The SRPD55 differs in its dial and hands (round dots with pill markers at 6 and 9, a triangle at 12 and sword-shaped hands) and in its movement.
