About the original
Grand Seiko says the case design of the Elegance GMT is inspired by the classic form of the very first Grand Seiko, which was born in 1960. The watch is described as a travel-ready GMT with the Caliber 9S66, an automatic movement with a power reserve of about 72 hours.
The case is round with gentle curves and lugs that widen toward the tip, polished with the Zaratsu technique. The GMT hand is made to match the length of the hour hand and points to a 24-hour numeral scale inside the hour indexes, so the two time zones are told apart by hand size. Grand Seiko currently lists the SBGM221 (ivory dial) and two spiral-dial versions, SBGM255 and SBGM257, in the Elegance Collection.
